Emissions and Energy
Even if your first concern is fuel savings and profitability, a huge benefit to your investment in Freight Wing's trailer aerodynamics is reduced impact on the environment and reduction of our nation's dependency on foreign oil. With 70% of all freight being moved by trucks and trucking being responsible for around 7% of the total U.S. oil consumption, the move to green trucking could be considered a national security issue. Truckers should be commended for the fantastic work they have been doing to run cleaner fleets in recent years, but many of these improvements have come at great expense with little recognition for these efforts. Tractor trailer aerodynamics are great for everyone in that they provide highly visible environmental benefits by the means of reduction of burnt fuel and not by the use of expensive emission treatment systems that have actually reduced fuel economy.
According to the EPA, diesel fuel consumption of ground freight transportation will increase to around 45 billions gallons by 2012, producing over 450 million metric tons of carbon dioxide. Faced with this reality and the fact that the average tractor trailer combination only gets around 6 MPG, there is much work that need to be done. Widespread implementation of the Freight Wing Aeroflex to equip a target of 50% of the U.S ground freight fleet by 2012 would result in the potential yearly savings of over 1.6 billion gallons of diesel fuel and over 16 million metric tons of carbon dioxide.
The fuel saving and emission reducing benefits of Freight Wing Aeroflex, Belly Fairing, and Gap Fairing have been verified by the EPA SmartWay Partnership. This important program maintains a list of verified technologies to help truckers qualify for grants and meet environmental regulations such as California’s new CARB Heavy Duty Vehicle Greenhouse Gas Measure. This revolutionary measure requires that EPA SmartWay verified aerodynamic trailer technologies be implemented on trailers traveling in the state of California. Initiatives such as this support the goals of the EPA’s Smartway program to eliminate up to 66 million metric tons of emissions annually by 2012.
We have already made an impact with thousands of Freight Wing units sold across the country savings thousands of gallons of diesel each day. These positive energy and environmental benefits should grow exponentially with modest investments required.
Trucking is going green and keeping the green!
